Celebrating with a Fish Feast in Old Town Alexandria

The Iolani Mid-Atlantic Regional Alumni Association (IMARA) enjoyed fresh raw oysters, crab, shrimp, and many other seafood delights during a fall gathering on October 25. The participants met at the Fish Market restaurant in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, outside of Washington, D.C. on a brisk autumn day.  In attendance were Wade Ishimoto ’59, Janet Kilian-Kivler ’91, Mark Nakagawa ’85, Danna Ponce ’93, Audrey Ehrhorn Stanley ’02, Shelley Volkwein ’86, Kim Fassler ’02 and their family members and guests. The IMARA coordinators, Alyssa Ellis ’00, Jenny Taoka Hilscher ’89, and Bryan Horikami ’82 were very pleased to see both new faces and returnees.

Awarded to the top finishers of the “Fall Fish Feast Quiz” were door prizes which included a bag of Kona coffee and assorted candies.  Questions on the quiz included: What is the English name for ‘weke’? and What does the ‘papio’ grow up to be?  The answers are “goatfish” and “ulua.”  Congratulations to Bob Volkwein, Mark Nakagawa, and Kim Fassler who had the top scores.
